VOLVO ELECTRIC BUS SYSTEM TO LUXEMBOURG Luxembourg, one of the first cities in Europe to implement buses with hybrid technology, has set a further step and decided to invest in electric buses. In 2011, the first Volvo hybrids were delivered, today 14 Volvo 7900 Hybrids operate in the city. Luxembourg City and AVL now takes the next step in electrification of the public transport system with the purchase of five Volvo 7900 Electric Hybrids and ABB bus chargers to be delivered towards the end of 2016. One of the bus chargers will be placed at the central station in Luxembourg.

DUTCH TARGET: ONLY ZERO EMISSION BUSES AFTER 2025 The provinces of Noord-Brabant and Limburg have already laid the foundations for this agreement, as bus companies in those two provinces will have switched completely to electric vehicles within a few years. From 2025, all new public transport buses operating in the Netherlands will be zero-emission vehicles, following an agreement signed by Environment Minister Sharon Dijksma with the country’s transport operators that all public transport buses coming into service from 2025 will be electric and hydrogen-powered.
