ELECTRIC BUS WITH TOSHIBA WIRELESS CHARGER CUTS CO2 EMISSIONS Toshiba Corporation has announced the results of field tests of electric buses charged with its wireless rapid rechargeable battery system. The tests, carried out with the cooperation of Waseda University, concluded that using the buses to replace standard diesel buses could cut CO2 emissions from daily operation by up to 60%1. The project was supported by the Ministry of the Environment's Low Carbon Technology Research and Development Program.

NEOPLAN TOURLINER WINS IF DESIGN AWARD 2017 The Neoplan Tourliner was awarded the iF Design Award 2017 in the ‘Automobiles/Vehicles/Bikes’ category. The prizewinners – including sports cars and motorbikes from renowned manufacturers – were honoured at an awards ceremony in Munich. Altogether there were 5575 entries from 2675 participants drawn from a total of 59 countries. The decision of the jury, 58 design experts from 19 countries, recognises that even a coach from the standard segment can be extremely attractive.

NAVYA PLANS TO TEST SELF-DRIVING BUS IN JAPAN THIS SPRING The French electric vehicle startup, Navya, is aiming to bring its driverless bus to sites such as shopping centers, airports and university campuses in Japan, with the intention of delivering low-speed shuttle services that would run along fixed routes. With just three years to go until the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, the vice president of Navya, Henri Coron, has expressed his excitement over the innovative project, saying that the company aims to connect Tokyo subway stations with Olympic and Paralympic venues using its self-driving buses.
